Last Minute 4th of July Hosting Ideas

Happy Tuesday ya’ll! Thursday is Fourth of July which means gatherings, food, and fireworks! Incorporating the holiday and its themes into the food is a fun and chic way to elevate your presentation for your guests! Here are some last minute things you can make that will wow the crowd and won’t take much time at all!

Charcuterie Board

In my opinion, there is no party without a cheese and fruit board. These are so easy to make, but look like a million bucks. They add instant elegance to any party and any spread. You honestly can’t go wrong – put it together with different cheeses, meats, fruits, and crackers and your all set! Because of the holiday though, I wanted to keep with the red, white and blue.

Here is what I used for my board:

  • White cheddar cheese (I would have also loved to added a block of brie to the board as well!) I cut the cheese into stars with a little cookie cutter, and I loved the way it looked!
  • mozarella cheese balls topped with olive oil and a balsamic glaze
  • red grapes
  • strawberries
  • cherries
  • blue berries
  • crackers
  • salame
  • proscuitto
  • olives
  • nuts (I opted for just almonds)
  • dark chocolate squares
  • you can also add things like dried fruits, breadsticks,

Summer Watermelon and Moscato Drink

I also made my Summer Watermelon Moscato drink. It is perfect for the 4th and is so refreshing! What says summer more than watermelon?! Best of all, this drink took me no more then 5 minute to make. Here is what I did:

  • Add 1/2 liter of Watermelon Juice (You can make your own by blending watermelon but if your in a pinch, there is Simple Watermelon that I saw at Target!)
  • Add 1/2 liter of moscato (you can substitute this with chamgpagne for a watermelon mimosa, or a hard liqueur for a summer cocktail! You can even just add some sparkling water for a bubbly kid-friendly drink)
  • Add some pieces of fresh fruit like watermelon cubes, chopped strawberries, and blue berries in keeping with the national colors
  • Top with a sprig of mint if you would like, and violá!

4th of July ‘Firework’ Pom Pom Cupcake Topper

The last thing I wanted to talk about was, of course, dessert! I love baking and making things from scratch BUT, when planning a party, there is often simply no time for baking. You can still add your own flare to the desserts though, and the perfect thing for the 4th of July are these “firework” pom-pom cupcake toppers.

These are sooooo easy to make, and they suit the occasion so perfectly! They are adorable and will have guests going crazy.

Here is what you need:

  • Red, white, and blue yarn
  • Scissors

Here is how you make it:

  • Line up the three yarn colors and place them width-wise along your index and middle finger
  • Wrap the yarn strands around your fingers 10 times. Make sure the yarn is wrapped snug enough around your fingers to stay tight but loose enough to remove easily
  • Once you have wrapped it around 10 times, cut the yarn.
  • Slip the yarn loops carefully off of your finger
  • Cut an additional piece of yarn (~6 inches)
  • Tie the loop down the center with the strip of yarn. Make sure to fasten it tightly. It should now look like a cute little bow tie with loops at each end
  • Cut the loops at their middle with scissors
  • Fluff away!
  • Note: for a fluffier pom pom, do more than 10 wrap-arounds. I wanted mine to look like fireworks that’s why I did 10. Also for fluffier pom poms, comb the yarn strands out.
  • To add as a cupcake topper, add some glue to the tip of a toothpick with a hot glue gun. Bury the tip into the pom pom till the glue cools/sets.

Hope you guys find these fast and easy last minute ideas helpful and Happy 4th!

XOXO,
